Films in my life

A house on my back

"Home is the place where,
when you have to go there,
they have to take you in."
Robert Frost

Doubtless, I need to take a lot of time If I need to choose my best movie, because I have an enormous amount of choices. I love to waste my time watching movies and learning about different fiction stories or not. Obviously, I need to consider a great kind of elements to make my choice: topic, place, people, message, narrative form, etc.

However, probably my first option would be the prize-winner colombian piece titled The Strategy of the Snail (1994). This film, based on a true story, tells the story about an entire group of tenants who have serious differences but share a shelter home in the center of Bogota, capitol of Colombia. They are under a court order to leave, because the new owner and heir had intentions to use it for a different purpose.  Although initially they resisted the idea, the tenants are forced to return the house, but first they decide painting it. Nevertheless, they are doing the opposite to dismantle this house.

On conclusion, I chose this movie, because in my opinion it is important to consider the situation of the homeless person. Especially, if I keep in mind my last experience with homeless in Baltimore last spring break, where I learned that we have a national and human responsability by the others. And although his story is real, sometimes we need fiction in our lives, particularly when we need to consider how to carry our home on the back. Or which is to say our people,  at the end.

The Death Penalty

About a Reasonable Doubt

“We're all human, aren't we?
Every human life is worth
the same, and worth saving.”
J.K. Rowling

What is the value on a human being life?  Maybe I can answer this, if I am talking about the purpose of death penalty, but maybe not. On second thought, maybe today is the time to say loud and clear: I need to distinguish between personal opinion and social conditioning. Especially, I must recognize that my culture shapes me. And, however, I may build character into my life anshape me as a person, who is constantly using his common sense.

When I listen different opinions about this topic, I think immediately in our condition as fallible beings. We can not decide over the lives of many people. We do not have that right. It would make us as criminals or killers, too. Killing can never be justified.

Finally, about 'how much is human life worth in itself?', my conclusion is that the human life is well worth a reasonable doubt. While this doubt exists, it is not permissible to take a human life.
